Our Shamanic Drums
How We Birth Them

Shamanic DrumsShamanic Drums

We take great care when birthing our shamanic drums. All of our materials are ethically sourced and treated with the utmost respect. We also try to obtain our materials from as close to home as possible.

We work in ceremony to honour and thank the spirit of the animals and the trees involved in creating our drums. We work to heal and clear any trauma they may have suffered in life and we check that I have permission to make the drum.

We soak the skins when the energies are at their strongest, the full and the new moon. As our ancestry is European we also work on the Celtic sabbats of Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh and Mabon.

Commissions

Most of our drums are 16” or 14" in diameter but we can work to your own specification if you would prefer a larger or smaller drum.

We currently work mostly with red deer and goat however, we can source reindeer and horse. If you have a special request we may be able to get hold of other hides too.

Just drop us a line via our contact us page and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Crystals

We can permanently fix a crystal of your choice in the centre of the handle or we can create the drum so that you can add your own crystal, or change the one we fit for you.

If you chose the interchangeable crystal method we will send you a video showing you how to add and remove the crystals.

Hair-On Shamanic Drums

I do love the hair-on shamanic drums. They have a beautiful deep sound but, oh my goodness, they are so temperamental.

It's incredibly hard to get a good enough stretch on the drum head and as soon as they get a little bit cold they become quite loose and impossible to work with.

A gentle blow with a hairdryer, or some time by the fire soon has them up and playing again but, because of their volatile nature, I will only make hair-on drums as a custom order.

Tension Ring Style Drums

LacingTension Ring Style Drum

We're currently looking for a local blacksmith who can make the tension rings for us.

I must admit I haven't looked too hard yet but it's definitely on my to do list.

We will be offering the tension ring style drums as soon as I get my act together.

It's been a long time since I made one and I'd love to work that way again soon.

Connecting With Your Drum

When you buy a drum from us we will give you full instructions on how to connect your heartbeat to that of the drum.

Your connection to the drum is a very important part of the process. Once you have connected, your drum will be a very powerful tool for journeying and healing.

It's important that no one else plays your drum or their energies will mix with yours and the drum's connection to you will be impaired. Don't worry if this does happen though as it can be sorted out. Drop us a line if you have any problems with your connection to your drum.

Drum Care

All of our shamanic drums come home with full instructions on how to care for them. With the right handling and environment your drum should last for many years.

Drum Beaters

Drum BeaterBeater

All of our drums come with a beater. The head is hand stitched felt or suede and is stuffed with Swiss Valais x Texel wool sourced from a local smallholder. Once stuffed it's attached to the stick using some of the same hide I used to lace the drum. The handle is gifted by our local woodland. I trim, sand, wax and polish the stick before attaching it to the beater head.
